Lots of people have seen her at least once in their lives. Many of them learned first aid there. However, few people wondered where the idea for a phantom used by students while learning resuscitation came from and how interesting and at the same time tragic it is connected with him. It all started with a dramatic event that took place at the end of the 19th century in Paris.

No one knew the young woman, but her appearance aroused widespread interest
All the inhabitants of Paris lived for a long time on this one event. The shocking news came out of their mouths: the body of a young woman had been fished out of the Seine, near the Louvre. Her age was estimated at around 16. The body was first taken to the mortuary. After a short time, when it was impossible to determine who the girl was, they were put on public display. Her appearance aroused great interest. It was impossible to take your eyes off her delicate facial features and mischievous smile. This was a common practice in those days, and it was the only way to determine the identity of a dead person. Time passed, but no one came with this information. Unfortunately, this time this method did not bring the expected results, both the girl’s identity and the reason for her death remained a mystery forever.
Anna’s face is the most kissed face in the whole world
There are two theories about what happened next. The first one says that the doctor who performed the autopsy was so enchanted by the girl’s appearance that he ordered a plaster cast of her face. The second theory assumes that the pathologist’s student fell in love with the drowned woman and made a plaster cast of her so that he could look at that face whenever he felt the need. In the end, the image of the woman quickly found its way into souvenir shops, he appeared, among other things, in paintings. Years later, two doctors, Peter Safara and James Elama, in cooperation with Asmund Laerdal, created the first phantom for teaching first aid. The latter chose the face of the phantom – it was a beautiful “stranger from the Seine”, who was named Anna.
It was supposed to be a symbol of a woman who could not be saved. It is now said that her Annie face has become the most kissed female face in the world.
