On December 3, 2004, the family film “The Polar Express” directed by Robert Zemeckis was released in cinemas throughout Poland. The script was based on the classic story for children by Chris Van Allburg of the same title. And although many say that it is far from perfect, the atmosphere and message constantly attract not only children but also adults to the screens.

“The Polar Express” is a unique story about an 8-year-old boy who, under the pressure of his peers who have long stopped believing in the existence of Santa Claus, begins to question his truth. On Christmas Eve, he lies in bed, hoping to hear the sound of reindeer in a cart carrying gifts. At one point, however, he jumps up at the sound of a whistling train. A strange conductor gets off and invites him on an extraordinary journey, nowhere else but to the North Pole. It is there, in the magical land of Santa Claus, that his tireless faith in his existence is rewarded.

Noteworthy is the excellent production, for which Warner Bros. allocated a budget of almost $165 million. The star cast turned out to be equally important. Its members included, among others: Nona gaye, Daryl Sabara, Eddie Deezen, Peter Scolari, Jimmy Bennett.
However, the key role was played primarily by the great actor, who played as many as 4 different characters: Krzyś, the conductor, the tramp and Santa Claus, and also lent his voice to two more characters: the dad and the narrator. The “tomhanksfansite” Instagram profile published a behind-the-scenes recording of the production combined with shots known from the film.
“The Polar Express” was a kind of breakthrough in the history of cinema, because it was created using the then not very popular performance capture technology, which allowed capturing the movement and facial expressions of an actor from a traditional film and then processing it into animation. In this way, he could play as many as four characters, which were later digitally modified in the post-production process. Many fans of this fairy tale had no idea about it for decades, as evidenced by the numerous comments published under the entry.
