The lawyer named the most common scam schemes

Ivan Solovyov, Doctor of Law and Honored Lawyer of Russia, told RT about the most relevant fraudulent schemes in 2023.

According to the expert, scammers are constantly improving their methods of deception, creating new schemes as old ones cease to be effective. The first 7-10 days after the introduction of a new scheme are considered the most successful for scammers, since citizens do not yet have time to realize the threat. The effectiveness then decreases due to increased attention and preventive measures.

Soloviev noted that in 2023, scammers have new goals, not just to steal money, but to force their victims to take out loans and sell property. He also mentioned new schemes, including calls on behalf of cellular companies with the threat of losing the number and calls about social benefits that require providing card details or entering an SMS code.

The expert suggests that in 2024, scammers will use the latest digital technologies, such as spoofing the voices and images of acquaintances, to deceive potential victims. However, he emphasized that the main targets of fraud will continue to be pensioners, disabled people, civil servants and other vulnerable groups of the population.
