Christmas cake scandal. She will pay dearly for what she has done. Italians outraged

Chiara Ferragni was fined over one million euros. It’s all because of an ad for Christmas cookies. Even the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni herself spoke on the matter.

Chiara Ferragni is one of the first fashion bloggers in the world. Interestingly, the Italian started her career in 2008. She quickly gained many fans in her homeland, and soon all over the world. She also became a favorite of designers, an ambassador of Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and Dolce Gabbana. Currently, her Instagram profile is followed by almost 30 million people. However, recently the popular influencer has reasons to worry.

Chiara Ferragni in an ad for Christmas cookies

Chiara Ferragni allegedly misled consumers in an advertisement for Balocco’s pandoro cake. The Italian antitrust authority imposed a huge fine on it. Cookies usually cost around 4 euros, but the version promoted by Ferragni cost as much as 9 euros. The higher price was justified by support for an organization dedicated to bone cancer research at a hospital in Turin.

However, it turns out that the advertising was misleading to consumers. When they bought cookies promoted by Ferragni, they believed they were supporting a charity. However, as stated by the Italian regulatory authority (AGCM), Balocco made a one-off payment to the facility in the amount of EUR 50,000. What’s more, it happened a few months before the Christmas delicacy was launched on the market. The conclusion is that when advertising the product, Chiara Ferragni had nothing to do with the donations that were made to the organization. Ultimately, the Italian monopoly office imposed a fine of EUR 1.075 million on the influencer.

The whole of Italy has been concerned about this issue for several days. Even Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni commented on it. – They earn a lot of money by wearing clothes and showing bags or even promoting expensive cakes, which makes people believe that it is charity – said the politician. Chiara Ferragni, however, said that the confusion was caused by “communication errors.”
