Many fans of the band today remember the band’s first concert as much as their wedding day or the birth of a child. And there is something to remember. We are not only talking about the iconic photo she took in February 1987 at the “gierkówka”, right next to the information board on national road number 1. Residents of Radomsko joke that this is the only photo of the legendary band with their town. There is no shortage of events that have already made history due to the band’s performance in Poland. One of them is a certain party in a hotel room.
The first concert of Metallica in Poland. They remembered him especially
In February 1987, Metallica played their first concert in Poland. Or rather, the first two concerts, both took place at Spodek in Katowice. The fans went crazy, they traveled halfway across Poland to get tickets. Among those willing to get tickets in advance was a group of friends from Wałbrzych. 12 people managed to get 24 tickets, of course for both concerts. – We tried to find out which hotel Metallica would stay in – recalled one of the protagonists of the event in a conversation with Droga deduction. They determined that it would definitely be Hotel Warszawa (today’s Novotel). Although not all of them were adults, they somehow managed to find a room, although for the safety of the whole undertaking they agreed that it was better not to leave it.
They invited the musicians for vodka. “Hetfield came” and the party lasted until the morning
It turned out that the gentlemen were right and soon Metallica checked into the hotel. Two daredevils who knew some English decided to take a risk. – We came up and said that we would be at the concert tonight, but after the concert we would like to invite you to our room for Polish vodka – recalled one of them. There was only one problem. How to get alcohol? – After a long run around the shops, the guys bought a few bottles of some nasty vape with an orange label. Something herbal, tasted like motor oil. A disaster – they recalled in “”.
Hotel Warsaw, the night of February 10-11, 1987. After the first concert of the legendary group, 12 friends from Wałbrzych returned to the hotel “waiting for the finale of the adventure of a lifetime”. When midnight passed and the team was gone, hopes faded a bit. Suddenly James Hetfield appeared. Shocked, they started shouting “Hetfield has come!” – When I saw it, I thought it was hallucinations, side effects of herbal vodka – joked one of the event participants. The teenagers drank vodka with the Metallica singer, taught him how to swear in Polish and partied until the morning. In the morning, Hetfield promised a repeat performance, but unfortunately, the band flew out of Katowice after the second concert. And although it sounds like a joke today, there are photos of the musician posing with a bottle and 12 fans from Wałbrzych as souvenirs.
