A new service has been opened in the sea port of Guayaquil, managed by Contecon Guayaquil, a company from the International Container Terminals Services Inc. group. (ICTSI). It is about Albatros, the Israeli shipping company ZIM (Integrated Shipping Services), with which it connects with the markets of northern China and the west coast of South America, including the port of Guayaquil.
The Albatross service, which will operate weekly, has the most modern technology for transporting refrigerated cargo, equipped with ZIMonitor capabilities. The route includes stops in the ports of Tianjin, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, in China; Busan, in South Korea; Lázaro Cárdenas, in Mexico; Buenaventura, in Colombia; Guayaquil, in Ecuador; Callao in Peru and San Antonio in the United States.
Contecon plans to close 2023 with more than 900,000 TEUS mobilized at the Port of Guayaquil, 5% more than 2022.
Fohodil Galeas, commercial director of Contecon Guayaquil, indicated that the new service of ZIM, a shipping company that is present on six continents, represents a good alternative for Ecuador’s export offer, opening new commercial opportunities and promoting economic growth in the region. “In addition, it is a sign of the shipping industry’s confidence in our operations,” Galeas said.
The amount of cargo handled by Contecon accounts for 40% of the market share. At the end of 2023, it plans to move more than 900,000 TEU, which represents an increase of more than 5% compared to 2022.
