Sergio Ocampo, project manager of the New Terminal, Platforms and Accesses of LAP, reported that the estimated investment for the modernization of the Jorge Chávez airport will exceed US$1.3 billion in 2023.
In dialogue with Andina, the airport representative said that the progress of the new Jorge Chávez airport is greater than 66%. The civil works are practically completed and all the major purchases have been made.
“In the case of escalators, for example, 60% have already been installed. The same happens with elevators, elevators, escalators and many other equipment that comes from outside Peru,” he reported to the agency.
Likewise, Ocampo specified the amount of LAP investments in this megaproject is US$2,000 million. By the end of 2023, more than US$1.3 billion will have been committed.
“Today, what remains to be completed are the terminal building, the accesses and the platform. To do this, it is estimated to invest close to US$500 million in 2024 and the remaining US$200 million in 2025,” he stated.
It should be noted that the new infrastructure will have five levels (a basement and four floors) that will allow the passenger to have a broader travel experience. In the same way, it will have three breakwaters for boarding and disembarking passengers: one exclusive for domestic flights; another, for internationals; and a central one, which will be mixed. This will avoid the crowds we see now.
