is undoubtedly one of the most popular and characteristic Polish actors. His considerable artistic achievements include many roles both on the small and big screen, which have become a permanent part of Polish cinematography. Working on set wasn’t always just a pleasure for him.
Bogusław Linda played in many cult productions. He doesn’t recall all of them with optimism
Although he made his screen debut in 1973 in the TVP adventure series “Black Clouds”, he played his first major role, which was the beginning of his career, only 7 years later in “Fever”. From then on, he could not complain about the lack of professional offers. He collaborated with the most outstanding directors in Poland, including: with Krzysztof Kieślowski, Janusz Zaorski, Jacek Bromski and Andrzej Wajda. He is remembered by viewers primarily as Lieutenant Arek from “Kroll” or Franz Maurer from “Psy”, but the roles of a macho tired of life were not the biggest challenge for him.
was a guest in the 6th episode of the “Reconstruction Cyfrowa TVP” podcast, in which he talked about the background of his work and the most important roles in his career. He admitted that when creating his characters, he tries to avoid being inspired by his own experiences to spare himself suffering. – I act intuitively, I think about what this type of guy might feel. I find these partial fragments from meetings with other people rather than myself. I’m curious about people, life, I always have been. And it helps me in my profession – he said about his workshop. However, he is not always able to separate work from his personal experiences, which, as he emphasizes, can have disastrous consequences. Why?
These roles almost ruined his career. What titles are we talking about?
The actor does not hide the fact that he also has productions that have left a special mark on his psyche. – These are two roles that I call the beginning of my career and the end of my career – he began mysteriously. It turned out that the first one was Agnieszka Holland’s social drama “A Single Woman” from 1987, in which he played the role of Jacek Grochal. – It exhausted me physically and emotionally. I was devastated after this film, he said, adding that such a situation was inevitable. – You have to experience it, otherwise you can’t do it, that’s what this profession is all about – he explained.
The role of Władysław Strzemiński in the biographical film “Afterimages” was an equally big challenge for him. – That boat that I had to get into and survive those three months, those bullets that almost permanently damaged my left hand because I had inertia – he listed what caused him the most difficulties. – I couldn’t get up after these two films, it took me a long time to recover, physically, but above all mentally – he said.
