Poles keep it at home and think it is zamiokulkas. One detail reveals everything

Zamioculcas is one of the most frequently chosen indoor plants. It does not have high requirements, so even a beginner can handle its cultivation. Many people call it zamia, having no idea that they are two different flowers. How to tell them apart?

Zamioculcas is a succulent plant and belongs to the family Aceae. It has egg-shaped leaves, slightly pointed at the tips. They grow from short petioles arranged on the shoots. Due to the similarity of the leaves, it is sometimes confused with zamia, which comes from cycads. Although they look like the same flower at first glance, they differ in several details.

Zamioculcas does not produce a stem or trunk, only underground rhizomes from which the leaves grow. In turn, in zamia, the leaves grow directly from the trunk, which becomes longer as the plant grows. This makes the flower resemble a small palm tree. In Poland it is called the Jamaican cycad or cardboard palm. It likes bright, but not directly exposed to sunlight.

It needs a permeable substrate and prefers moist air. Spray its leaves with water twice a week and apply palm fertilizer once a month. Zamia does not tolerate drafts and feels best in a room at 18 degrees Celsius.

How to take care of your teeth? It has different requirements than zamioculcas

Zamioculcas does not require frequent watering. It is best to do this only when the soil is slightly dry. The situation is different in the case of zamia. It does not tolerate drought well and requires regular irrigation and sprinkling. Therefore, it is slightly more demanding than zamioculcas, but people value it for its decorative values and the fact that it grows extremely quickly. The undoubted advantage of the Jamaican cycad is that it can stay on the balcony or terrace from spring to autumn.
