On Wednesday, sad news reached Poland from Berlin. Ewa Wanat is dead. A radio and television journalist, for years the editor-in-chief of TOK FM, died on Wednesday evening.

Ewa Wanat associated her professional career mainly with radio, but she was not absent from television or the press. She created Radio S Poznań, which later transformed into Eska. She worked at Radio Puls, from 2003 she was the editor-in-chief of radio TOK FM (in 2008, under her leadership, the station won the title of “Station of the Year” in the plebiscite of the “Media&Marketing” magazine), in the years 2013-2015 she was the editor-in-chief and program director of Radio Dla Młodych. She created reports and documentaries for TVP1 and TVP2, cooperated with “Gazeta Wyborcza”, and was the author of materials, among others: to “Questions for Breakfast”.
She has published several books, received several nominations and several industry awards. She was the winner of the 2010 Hiacynta Award for “brave, open, open-minded journalism” and received the Golden Cross of Merit in 2013, the Maneo und Tolerantia Award in 2015, and the Beata Pawlak for the collection of reports “Deutsche Nasza. Reportaże Berlinskie”.

Ewa Wanat was one of those few people who not only said that they would leave Poland after PiS won, but also turned words into action. In 2015 she moved from Poland to Berlin:
In 20015, with the first victory of PiS, my enthusiasm decreased. In 2010, after the Smolensk disaster and the subsequent Polish-Polish war, it completely disappeared. I started to feel less and less comfortable in Poland. The air is getting heavier, there are more and more horses to kick against. And life is only one and it is getting shorter. In 2015, my then partner said: let’s leave Poland – she wrote in a column for Onet.
About two weeks ago, on social media, where she was commenting on political events in Poland, she suddenly asked not to contact her. “Respect my great need for peace and quiet,” she wrote.
