According to Reuters, the trial of a 47-year-old German suspected of the murder of Madeline McCann will begin on February 16. The indictment of the man who was formally identified in 2022 as a suspect in the disappearance of a three-year-old girl is over 100 pages long. The man has numerous crimes on his record. He is currently serving a sentence for raping a 72-year-old American woman in the same area in the Algarve, Portugal, where Madeleine McCann disappeared in 2007. He has been convicted of drug trafficking and child abuse. He is accused of three rapes and two counts of child molestation. The prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig filed an indictment in October 2022.
“I’m the most famous bad guy in the world and I haven’t done anything”
Despite the mounting accusations, the man maintains his innocence. Last April, the Daily Mail obtained a letter he sent from his prison cell. “Welcome to the greatest adventure you can imagine. I am the most famous bad man in the world and I have done nothing – well, almost nothing (…) I have not kidnapped anyone and of course I have not killed anyone. I will go further. I will tell you that I did not attack anyone over the age of 18,” he allegedly wrote.
However, the records say otherwise. “Christian B. was charged because between December 28, 2000 and April 8, 2006, he allegedly tied up and raped an elderly woman aged 70-80 in her holiday apartment. During the same period, he also allegedly raped a German-speaking girl aged at least 14 years old. (…) The German also brutally raped a 20-year-old woman from Ireland on June 16, 2004. He was supposed to record everything. Moreover, in April and June 2007, he allegedly showed himself naked to two girls aged 10 and 11 and he masturbated in front of them,” Deutsche Welle reports.
