Does your boyfriend take his phone and spend forever on the toilet? Attention! This may end badly

It is said that women can spend hours in the bathroom, although men have their share too. However, while the “everything shower” is rather harmless, sitting on the toilet for a long time may have unpleasant consequences.

Spending too much time in the bathroom is the number one cause of household arguments. Teenagers are accused of looking in the mirror, women of taking long baths, and men of sitting on a throne. Everyone has their own opinions, but – as it turns out – the latter is especially worth considering. Our health is at stake.

How long does it take to have a healthy bowel movement?

Sitting on the toilet by men is a common cause of marital disputes. They take their phone and lock themselves in the bathroom for much longer than it takes to relieve themselves. We don’t want to generalize here, because it happens to women too, but today we focus on men. This topic was recently discussed via Instagram by two specialists: women’s physiotherapist Ewelina Słyk and Daria Łukowska – a dietitian dealing mainly with men’s health.

How long does it take to have a healthy bowel movement? The experts discussed this topic together. It turns out that the few dozen minutes you spend on the toilet are definitely too long. And the consequence is not wasted time at all (or at least not only). The effects of sitting on the toilet for a long time can be really serious.

Defecation should last 20 seconds. From the moment I sit on the toilet to the moment I finish. 20 seconds is the stool transit time. Everything after that is superfluous for us

– said the physiotherapist.

Sitting on the toilet for a long time? This could end badly

Sitting on the throne for a long time has just as bad consequences for women as for men. It’s all because of our anatomical structure. The dietitian pointed out that it’s not like you’re constantly pushing yourself during these 20 or 30 minutes. However, it turns out that the sitting position itself, in which we lean only on our thighs, is very unfavorable.

In a sitting position, the entire perineum is in a vacuum. Then gravity works more because there is no support on the ischial tuberosities. When we sit on the support of our thighs, the entire center of the perineum – the testicles, the prostate and the entire muscular structure – tends to the ground. She tenses. This is not a relaxing position

– explained the physiotherapist. She also pointed out that other activities we perform while sitting on the toilet are not conducive to maintaining good health in this area. And the consequences associated with this can be really burdensome.

Pushing in general is bad. The stool should be of such consistency and quantity that I feel like it, I go to the toilet, it comes out, I finish, and I’m done. If it goes bit by bit and I have to make an effort, the rectal mucosa will slide out. Maybe enough to the point where she comes out at all. It may happen that the anus starts to fall out. This is not only from pushing, but also from sitting.

If it all tends to the ground, and I supported it several times, but then I sit there for 20 minutes, then the mucous membrane has not regenerated, it just keeps sliding out due to gravity. This means that rectal prolapse or mucous membrane protrusion may be a consequence of sitting on the toilet

– warned the expert.
