November 20, 1992 is an important date in the history of Polish cinematography. It was then that “Psy” directed by Stanisław Pasikowski premiered. Although “Kroll”, shot a year earlier, indicated what creative direction the director would choose, it was only thanks to the story of Franz Maurer that Polish viewers fell into collective ecstasy. However, apart from the iconic roles of Bogusław Linda, Janusz Gajos and Marek Kondrat, the audience fell in love with one more character.
Discovered as a hostess. Polish cinema loved her
The story of a Security Service officer who found himself at a crossroads due to the political changes in 1989 would not be complete without a companion from the heart. This was Angela Wenz, played by 17-year-old Agnieszka Jaskółka at the time. The issue of her age was controversial at the time. There was a theory that she was only 14 years old while working on the set (the actress herself denied this many years later). The person behind the young girl’s involvement was Linda’s beloved, Lidia Popiel, who was enchanted by her appearance during a visit to a department store (Jaskółka worked there as a hostess). Pasikowski had no doubts – she had to star in his film.
The role of an orphanage pupil, then Franz’s lover, and finally rejected love brought Jaskółka great fame. Apart from the audience’s acclaim, it also charmed the critics. At the 17th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia in 1992, she received an award for the best supporting female role. Even though she had the entire film world at her feet, she made a surprising decision. She decided to quit acting. Was it a too bold cinema debut? The media world was abuzz with gossip.
Farewell to cinema. Family drama in the background
After years, the actress decided to put an end to all speculations. It turned out, it wasn’t a matter of atonement for the performance in bold love scenes that made the difference. In an interview with “Taki jest Ży” Jaskółka talked about the family tragedy.
When I was 17, my mother was murdered during a robbery at our house. My sister and I were devastated and depressed.
– She confessed a family secret.
Agnieszka Jaskółka decided to “escape from the demons” to Paris, where she started her modeling career. Apart from the above-mentioned tragedy, she also received “ambiguous proposals” that effectively pushed her away from the film world. She also explained that she “experienced first-hand what other girls’ jealousy means.”
Return to Poland and participation in a dance show. Saying goodbye just as quickly
However, Jaskółka did not stay in France for long and decided to go to the United States, for… her beloved. She lived, among others, in Chicago and Los Angeles. She started law studies and then started working in a law firm. Her great return to Poland took place in 2010. She then appeared in the 12th edition of “Dancing with the Stars” together with the dancer, Rafał Maserak. However, they did not win the hearts of the audience and the jurors and ended their participation in the show already in the second episode. A year earlier, she also played an episodic role in the series “Now or Never!”.
Although in 2014 she appeared at the Digital Reconstruction gala of the film “Dogs”, she quickly escaped from the spotlight. She refused to play in the third part of the adventures of Franz Maurer. Apparently, he values a life of silence, away from the world of show business.
