There were many indications that fans would have to enjoy it this year. Another crazy comedy, “Believe in Santa Claus”, also set in a Christmas atmosphere, came to the rescue. There is no shortage of emotions, love and family atmosphere, of course with a slight wink, as befits a typical Christmas comedy.
“Believe in Santa Claus” instead of “Letters to M.”
Fans of the genre clearly liked the production, because during the premiere weekend, the film was watched in cinemas by over 116,000 people (including pre-premiere screenings, the film was watched by 141,000 people). This is the second best result this year. First place went to “The Green Border” directed by Agnieszka Holland, whose premiere was watched by over 136,000 people. In the case of the comedy “Believe in Santa Claus”, we can talk about a success, but still less than in the case of “Letters to M”, the premiere of which was attended by 288,000 people last year.
Although the comedy “Believe in Santa Claus” gathered a large audience in cinemas, critics are slightly less favorable to it. On the website Trójmiasto.pl we read that “the story is burdened with almost all the advantages and disadvantages of the films known from the ‘Letters to M.’ series”, and the production is characterized by “an excess of banality, artificiality and brevity at the level of the script”. A similar opinion appeared on the website Filmweb.pl, where the author considered “Believe in Santa Claus” as “a cinema of dreamy bubbles and fantasies”.
However, a question should be asked here: Shouldn’t such productions really be light and pleasant for viewers craving the magic of Christmas? Looking at other titles set in this atmosphere, for example “Love Actually” or “Four Stars”, each of the Christmas comedies has a touch of fantasy that could be expected from such productions.
