RBC: Deputy Dean of MGIMO was fired after Urgant’s lecture

Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Journalism at MGIMO, Yuri Kobaladze, who organized a lecture by TV presenter Ivan Urgant at the university in October, has been fired. RBC reports this.

According to media reports, Kobaladze invited Urgant to give a lecture at MGIMO in October. He agreed. And in November it became known that Kobaladze was fired.

The TV presenter himself commented on this news. “Ah, vaudeville, vaudeville…” Urgant wrote in his Telegram.

According to university students, Kobaladze informed them of his dismissal on November 14. The Telegram channel “Caution Moscow” writes that the teacher started having problems after Urgant’s lecture, who talked about “establishing personal connections in the media space.” According to the channel, they began to demand that he organize meetings with military officers.

Information about the dismissal from November 14 is confirmed by the MSK1 portal. The MGIMO website states that Kobaladze held this position from 2014 to 2023.

Kobaladze worked in the First Main Directorate of the KGB since 1972, and after its transformation into the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, he headed its press bureau. He also worked for TASS, was a correspondent for the State Television and Radio of the Soviet Union in the UK, and also held senior positions in the Renaissance Capital investment bank, X5Retail Group, and UBS bank.

Let us recall that earlier State Duma deputies appealed to the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee with a request to check Urgant for discrediting the army and the country’s leadership.
