Since the elections on October 15, the tense atmosphere on Polish Television has reached its peak. It turns out that not only news station employees can end up “out in the cold”. The cuts will also apply to entertainment programs. This is very sad news for fans of the cult game show “One of Ten”.
The program hosted by Tadeusz Sznuk has been on TVP’s schedule since 1994. However, it turns out that the public broadcaster’s finances are in such poor condition that it is necessary to introduce savings. Thus, as usual, culture and entertainment are most at risk. Apart from the game show, the broadcast of “Ojca Mateusz” will end at the end of November. Although the latest 30th season of the series was produced in 13 episodes, viewers will be the last to see the eighth one.
“The hero is knowledge.” The only game show of its kind
The host of “One of Ten” Tadeusz Sznuk always emphasized that “the hero of this program is knowledge.” And it’s hard to disagree with his words. The game show, like no other, did not forgive the lack of knowledge and did not generate controversy. And maybe that’s why, despite the lack of changes in its convention over the years, it still has a group of loyal fans and is even gaining new ones. The premiere of the 141st season, scheduled for November 28, has been postponed.
Cuts? “Viewers don’t remember previous seasons anyway”
But why were cuts made to such popular programs? As reported by the Plotek portal, TVP president Mateusz Matyszkowicz is looking for savings wherever possible. It is more profitable for TVP to show reruns of “Ojca Mateusz” instead of premieres of new episodes – all you need is a “good excuse”.
“Father Mateusz” has been broadcast on TVP1 since 2008. We will be able to watch the last, premiere episode of the 30th season on November 23. And then we will only have to solve the same criminal adventures together with the priest (played by Artur Żmijewski) all over again.
