These are hard times for people who rent apartments. In Warsaw, the average price of renting a studio apartment, according to data from September 2023, is approximately PLN 2,250 per month. Students who moved to the capital can rarely afford such an expense. We asked at the University of Warsaw whether it was difficult to rent an apartment in Warsaw this year and what solutions the young people who came here to study chose.

Apartment in Warsaw during studies? Only with a roommate

Our interlocutors admitted that renting an apartment alone was beyond their reach. – I have been renting a place in a dormitory for two years because I couldn’t afford an apartment in Warsaw – said one student. Another student added: “I’m currently commuting. I’m constantly looking and visiting various websites, but if there is a good offer, it quickly disappears.”

Those who manage to find a good deal usually live with roommates. – I rent an apartment with my mother and her friend from work. Renting an apartment in Warsaw is difficult, so it’s easiest to rent an apartment with someone, our interlocutor said. There were also people who lived with friends or partners.

What was the biggest problem?

When asked what the biggest problem was when looking for an apartment, they mentioned two factors: price and competition. – A dozen or so people can come to view one apartment – the student complained. She noticed that the more people interested, the more the rental price increased. Another student had a similar opinion. – There were a lot of offers. Some of them were also at affordable prices, but each day there were fewer and fewer of them. They were disappearing. And it was a matter of time to make a decision quickly and quickly find someone who would like to live there, a friend, he confessed. When asked what an affordable price was for him, he said the maximum was PLN 1,500 per room.
