Some journalists of the “old Trójka” want to return to the station. “I talked to about a dozen people”

Some journalists of the “old Trójka” declared their willingness to return to the air. The publisher, who has been working at the station since 2006, emphasizes that rebuilding the reputation of the medium loved by listeners will not be easy.

After the elections, the topic of changes in the public media continues. The loudest discussion is about the revolution in TVP, which the opposition is planning, but we can also expect reshuffles in Polish Radio. There were even rumors on the Internet about who might take over the management of the company. The most frequently mentioned names included Anna Godzwon, Agnieszka Rucińska and Kamil Dąbrowa – former journalists of the mentioned medium.

What’s next for Radio Three? Some journalists want to come back

Listeners of public radio stations had the worst reaction to the changes in Radio Three that took place after 2015, when Law and Justice took power. Then the names that had been associated with the legendary station for years disappeared from the air. Magda Jethon was fired from her position as director, then Jerzy Sosnowski, Dariusz Rosiak and Anna Gacek lost their jobs. After these reshuffles and the addition of right-wing publicists to the radio team, Wojciech Mann left Trójka. After the scandal related to Kazik’s song “Your pain is better than mine”, which reached the first place on Marek Niedźwiecki’s Hits Chart, the mentioned journalist also left the station. The next names that disappeared from the air were Hirek Wrona, Piotr Metz, Piotr Stelmach and Michał Olszański.

The station’s fans had to accept that this was the end of the “old Trójka”. However, now there is a chance to rebuild a medium that has been respected for years. Like Wirtualne Media, some journalists who said goodbye to Trójka are thinking about returning today. “I personally believe that rebuilding Trójka is possible, although it will certainly not be the same Trójka it once was,” says Wojciech Dorosz, the station’s publisher, who has been associated with the medium since 2006.

“These last few years have cost us too much”

“Especially since we are talking about a somewhat mythologized and cult radio station. In the times of the Polish People’s Republic, it was the only station that partly mocked and partly flirted with reality. After 1989, it became a place that still maintained a very high level of journalism and music , but also a high intellectual level,” he adds.

However, Dorosz claims that rebuilding responsible public radio is possible. The publisher also hopes that well-known names will return to Trójka. “I talked to a dozen or so people who also work in the new stations: Radio 357 or Radio Nowy ¦wiat: a large part of these people say that they will definitely not come back. Some, however, say that they would be happy to host some programs. I think it is very important because it can be a master-disciple transmission again,” he says.

Dorosz’s opinion is shared by Dorota Nygren, former journalist of the Polish Radio Information Agency. In an interview with Wirtualne Media, the editor said that Trójka is no longer the same radio station, and its reconstruction involves “titanical work”. He also believes that both well-known names and new people can “fix” the medium. “It is important that there is a clear concept that these are to be independent media. These last years have cost us too much, I mean journalists who have been hit hard and sacrificed a lot of their personal lives,” he concludes.
