They flew to Poland to compare prices. Now the British are apologizing for them. “These guys embarrass me”

Comparing prices in different stores is useful when you want to save. Some British people went a step further and made similar purchases in branches of the same chain, but in different countries. They wanted to prove that it is much cheaper in Poland than in Great Britain, but they ended up insulting Poznań, Poles and wasting food.

The withdrawal of Great Britain from the European Union, as well as other important world events, such as the coronavirus pandemic or the war in Ukraine, have caused the British to struggle with a huge crisis related to the rising costs of living (including soaring prices of rent, electricity and basic products). food). Many people started looking for savings wherever they could.

They managed to save money, but…

A few days ago, a 10-minute recording appeared on YouTube in which a pair of British YouTubers compare the prices of products in two stores of a popular chain – in Great Britain and Poland. The main assumption was to check whether they would pay cheaper for similar purchases in Poland than at home. The video has been watched by over 170,000 people, of which at least a thousand are terribly embarrassed – which they expressed in the comments.

Youtubers took into account the most basic products, such as milk, eggs, meat, oil, flour and bread. They paid £167.47 for purchases in a British store, i.e. the equivalent of almost PLN 846. Similar products in the Polish branch actually cost much cheaper, PLN 496.50, or just over £96. Interestingly, even adding the costs of return flights (47 pounds) and accommodation (8.55 pounds) to this amount did not change the result, because they still had 11 pounds left.

… they insulted Poles and hurt a man who wanted to provide them with a roof over their heads

However, what attracted the most attention of viewers was not the fact that you can fly to another country, shop there and still save a lot. YouTube users criticized the authors of the video for wasting food (not everything survived the flight), as well as inelegant behavior and arrogant comments towards Poles. Their victims were Poznań itself, which according to them had nothing interesting to offer, as well as the Poznań goats, which they commented on with a mocking grimace. The main complaint concerned the treatment of the owner of the house where they slept. They opted for couchsurfing, which is the ability to stay overnight with someone for free. However, the conditions offered to them by the host in his own apartment – to put it mildly – did not meet their expectations. So they moved to a hostel.

I say this as a working Englishman, these guys are an embarrassment to me. Good people from Poland, forgive me.

I feel physically sick when I watch the part with Jakub [gospodarzem – przyp. red.]. He seems like a really nice and lovely guy and he’s probably watching this too. […] We are not all like that, most British people love Poland and its culture

Wasting food, mocking other cultures, and turning up your nose at the idea of free, basic shelter is probably the most misguided way of “standing up” for the working class.

The lack of respect for the city’s goat tradition and calling the Polish currency “Monopoly money” was enough to irritate me. But the way you portrayed Jacob in this movie was truly heartbreaking for a man kind enough to put a roof over your heads.

The only thing you managed to show in this video is Archie [jeden z youtuberów – przyp. red.] he’s a stuck up, spoiled brat

– we read in the comments.
