“She shouldn’t approach an open casket.” Superstition? The priest made it clear

Some superstitions can become deeply rooted in the way we think. Father Sebastian Picur had to face one of them. A well-known tiktoker commented on an issue raised by one of his followers. The woman asked if it was true that “a pregnant woman should not approach an open coffin” during a funeral.

Father Sebastian Picur is very well known on TikTok. The priest runs a channel where he willingly answers observers’ questions regarding, among others: faith in God, the Church, the Catholic religion and the sacraments. He often gives them advice and prays the rosary with them during live broadcasts.

The priest is used to raising very diverse issues and does not shy away from difficult questions. On a daily basis, he serves at the Sanctuary of St. John Paul II in Krosno, Podkarpackie. He also teaches religion in primary schools and is the author of books for young people on evangelization.

A pregnant woman can’t approach the coffin? The priest dispelled the doubts

He has already gathered over 740,000 followers on TikTok. Recently, a video in which he answers a user’s question has attracted attention. The woman asked him to explain a certain superstition. “(…) A pregnant woman should not approach an open coffin. Is it true? What happens next?” – she asked.

The priest did not wait to answer and bluntly stated:

Nothing bad happens then. Please don’t believe in superstitions

– he replied. The recording was widely commented on by Internet users, most of whom agreed with the priest.

Superstition. I was pregnant and standing next to the open coffin, next to my fiancĂ©’s grandfather. There was nothing wrong with me or my son.

My sister buried her daughter while pregnant. And she said goodbye to her child. So I confirm that it’s just a superstition. Regards

When I was pregnant, I dressed my mother-in-law and nothing happened, don’t worry

At my brother’s funeral, I was 6 months pregnant and I gave my brother a kiss on the forehead as a farewell. Nothing bad happened, the son was born healthy

People are thoughtless. Why ask such pointless questions…

When I was pregnant, I went to my grandmother’s coffin and started hugging her, I thought she wouldn’t survive, but I missed her.

– we read in the comments on TikTok.

“It’s not about the dead or about superstition…”

Others, however, drew attention to a completely different detail.

The idea is to prevent a pregnant woman from exposing herself to additional stress/emotions that are not useful/advisable during pregnancy.

Superstition, but it’s really about stress. But honestly, if it’s a very close person, how can you not say goodbye

Rather, the point is that a funeral can be very difficult emotionally and due to nerves, various events may occur, such as water breaking or premature birth.

It’s not about the deceased or superstition in general, but about strong emotions that are not recommended during pregnancy

– they wrote.
