Honored figure skating coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova commented on the death of two-time Olympic champion Oleg Protopopov. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“His pairing with Lyudmila Belousova changed all ideas about figure skating, not just anyone, but they. Their performances immediately hit our souls, it’s impossible to forget,” Tarasova said. She expressed regret over the death of the champion.
Earlier on November 3, it became known that Protopopov died at the age of 92. The cause of the incident is not specified.
Together with his wife Lyudmila Belousova, Protopopov competed in pair skating for the Soviet Union. Athletes won gold medals at the Olympic Games in 1964 in Innsbruck and 1968 in Grenoble. In addition, the couple won the world championships four times.
