One hundred personalities from multiple fields have signed a manifesto titled ‘We must stop the war‘, in which they claim that cease bombings on Gaza “immediately”. In a text published in the newspaper ‘El País’, signatories such as José Sacristán, Juan Diego Botto, Rozalén, Silvia Pérez Cruz, Miguel Ríos, Charo López, Antonio de la Torre, Rosa Montero, Juan José Millás and Clara Lago, denounce the Israel’s “war crimes” on the Strip.

“The criminal terrorist actions of Hamas They deserve our strongest condemnationbut they cannot be used for justify the genocide practiced by the State of Israel against the Palestinian people. An Israeli life is worth as much as a Palestinian life,” they denounce.

The directors also sign this text Javier Fesser, José Corbacho, Fernando Trueba or Fernando Colomothe painter Antonio Lopezthe founder of the ONT, Rafael Matesanzor the actresses Mercedes Sampietro, Marisa Paredes, Julieta Serrano or Assumpta Sernawhich has a total of more than 1,000 signatures.

The State of Israel is committing war crimes in the face of which we cannot remain impassive,” they insist, urging “to stop this atrocity that increases the risk of military escalation in the region and poses a danger to world peace“. For the signatories, Israel “has the right to defend itself from terrorist attacks”, but not from “occupying Palestine and decimating its population.”

“Our place is with the just cause of the Palestinian people for ‘self-determination, including the right to an independent Palestinian state‘as recognized by the UN,” they add, ending with two demands on Israel and Hamas.

To Israel, they claim that “stop the bombing immediately, comply with International Law and enable a humanitarian corridor.” To Hamas, they request that they stop “their terrorist attacks and the unconditional release of the hostages.”

In addition, it proposes a ceasefire, UN mediation, an agreement based on existence of the two statesand the implementation of the proposition approved by Congress in 2014, in which the Government is urged to “recognize Palestine as a State.”
