The Mallorcan rapper Josep Miquel Arenasbetter known as Valtònycwho has been on the run in Belgium from Spanish justice for five years, arrived this Sunday in Mallorca, where around thirty people gave him a warm welcome at Palma airport.

Valtònyc has returned to Spain after having prescribed sentence of three and a half years in prison that the National Court imposed on him for crimes such as glorification of terrorism and insults to the crown, thereby rendering the pending international arrest warrants null and void.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m., Valtònyc was able to be hugged in the arrivals area of the airport by his relatives in a very emotional reception in which several people carried carnations in their hands and T-shirts with the motto “les paraules volen soles” (the words fly by themselves). They also displayed a banner that said “Benvingut to Valtònyc house“, along with some Estelada, Majorcan and Republican flags.

In statements to the media, Valtònyc has shown his satisfaction with this reception and has considered it a “shame” that his return to Spain is due to the statute of limitations for the crime and not because of the “self-criticism of the Spanish State“, which should respect freedom of expression and not condemn singers like him or Pablo Hasél, who remains in prison.

These years of fighting for freedom have been worth it“said Valtònyc, who acknowledged that exile in Brussels has been “very hard” (his mother died during his absence), but it has made him grow as “person and professionally“.

The past – he stated – is to learn, not to repent.; I have surely made many mistakes but today I have the friends I have, my family appreciates me and looks at me with pride.” He has also commented about his life in Belgium that he had “recurring dreams” such as that when he returned to Spain there was no no one waiting for him, or that the people he passed on the street had no faces.

For this reason, the reception in Mallorca “has been very exciting and a relief” and reaffirms the idea that these years of “fight for freedom of expression have been worth it.” In addition, he thanked the media for their attention because it is “important” to report the arrival “of the first convicted singer.” to prison in Europe and in the history of Spanish democracy.

In this context, he highlighted that countries like Belgium have modified u Penal Code to eliminate the crime of insults to the crown.

Valtònyc has hoped to soon meet in Spain with his fellow exiles in Belgium, such as the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont. The rapper wants to enjoy his family and friends, and also Mallorcan gastronomy because in “Belgium eats well, but not as well as on the island.

This morning a tribute to the singer is planned in the town of Sineu, in the Plaza del Fossar. The rapper still has a trial pending for November 21 in the Seville Court in which the Prosecutor’s Office asks him for five years in prison for a crime of provocation to commit an attack and threats – which would not have prescribed – for shouting at a concert expressions like “put a fucking bomb on the prosecutor” either “shoot a civil guard“.

He has acknowledged that he is nervous about this cause and has assured that “will appear, as always“who has had a trial.
