One of the most common symptoms of endometriosis is severe period pain. Young girls often hear that “periods must hurt”, but this is not true at all. Recurring pain should be a signal to take a better look at our body and go to the appropriate specialist. However, it turns out that sometimes this insidious disease – endometriosis – does not make itself felt at all. The problem only arises when a woman wants to get pregnant. This was the case with the guest of today’s episode of “We have time” – Sandra Spałek, who was first diagnosed in 2016. Listen to our conversation.

Endometriosis doesn’t always hurt. Sandra Spałek: Diagnosis was a traumatic experience, and it was already at an advanced stage

Many women dream of becoming a mother. This group also includes Sandra Spałek, who shared her story with us. – Doctors convince you that everything is going according to plan, that everything is fine. Only when you start trying for a baby and nothing happens, nothing goes according to plan, he says in an interview with us.

When there are symptoms, something hurts, it is easier – because the body gives you a signal that something is happening (…). In our case it was different

– adds Sandra.

What was the diagnosis process like? It turns out that before Sandra went to the doctor who confirmed that it was endometriosis, she had previously visited many specialists. – You go to a lot of doctors, each one has their story described anew and you hope that the next one will come up with some brilliant idea. – It can be said that diagnosing endometriosis on the National Health Fund is actually unrealistic – he adds. When Sandra managed to find the right doctor, he ordered her a test that is also performed when diagnosing ovarian cancer, i.e. a blood marker called CA125.

For me, this marker was definitely too high. We ruled out ovarian cancer and continued on this path. (…) We performed laparoscopy. (…) A traumatic experience for me, because I associate the diagnosis with a quick examination. We go in, we check, we leave, we go home. It turned out that instead of half an hour there were three and a half hours, and instead of one hole in the stomach there were three.

– he says in the program.
