Well-groomed feet are not only an aesthetic matter. This part of the body is quite sensitive in terms of hygiene. The almost constant wearing of socks and shoes creates ideal conditions for the development of bacteria and fungi. Meanwhile, we often hear that some people don’t even wash them, they just let the foam flow from the body do it. Additionally, many people struggle with ingrown toenails, painful calluses or cracked heels.
A simple path to infection
Only a podiatrist can help with many of these types of problems. However, there are a few things that will keep the skin of your feet in good condition and help prevent more serious problems from developing. Proper hygiene is essential, as is hydration. If we make sure to drink at least 1.5 liters of water a day, our skin – also on our feet – will be in much better condition. It is also worth taking care of moisturization from the outside, thanks to which we will strengthen the epidermis and avoid many abrasions and micro-injuries. These seem trivial, but they can become a real problem. All because of the previously mentioned bacteria and fungi. I don’t think anyone wants them to get into the deeper layers of the skin. They cause unpleasant inflammation, which causes us to feel pain, burning and itching. Then all we have to do is visit a podiatrist and undergo treatment, which can be expensive.
Take PLN 15 and go to the pharmacy
A big problem is cracked heels, which are quite difficult to control if we do not react in time. This may be due to hormones, skin diseases or an incorrect diet. However, this is often the result of poor hygiene (including excessive abrasion of the epidermis, e.g. with a pumice stone) and failure to use moisturizing creams. And we can find plenty of them in stores. Some of them cost a fortune and can almost move mountains. In many cases, the effect is not satisfactory at all.
It turns out that all you need is an ordinary propolis ointment. You can get it in any pharmacy for about PLN 15. It has fungicidal and antibacterial properties, and at the same time soothes and perfectly moisturizes dry and cracked skin. Apply the ointment to your feet after washing – it is best to do it at night, as it is quite oily. Propolis is bee glue, so allergic people should refrain from using it.
