Where to taste delicious guaguas de pan in Quito

Quito, the capital of Ecuador, shines not only for its rich history and culture, but also for its deep culinary tradition. One of these traditions is that of guaguas de pan, which is especially consumed during All Souls’ Day.

Guaguas de pan are sweet rolls in the shape of a child or baby (in Quechua, child means ‘baby’). They are traditionally consumed with colada morada, a thick drink made of blackberries and spices, which represents the memory of loved ones who have died.

This bakery is famous for its guagua bread, which is so popular that it often sells out. Its variety is impressive, with ten different types of guagua differing in taste and presentation.
