is not only one of the most famous authors of novels for children and teenagers in the world. The multimillionaire and creator of Harry Potter has been known as a person with transphobic views, which – without being asked – she mentioned many times in her posts on Twitter and in interviews.
It is therefore not surprising that she was active when information about a project to change the law suddenly appeared in Great Britain. According to the Labor Party’s plans, revealed by one of the informants close to the Tories (i.e. opponents of Labor), people who deny the transition process and deliberately use incorrect pronouns could be held criminally liable for insult. The proposed penalty was also set – two years in prison. No one from the Labor Party itself has commented on these rumors spread by the competition – what’s more, it looks like a false insert aimed at discrediting the opponents. Labor has only just withdrawn some of the proposals that would have made it easier for people from the LGBT+ community. The chances that they would want two years in prison for incorrect pronouns are minimal.
However, the news quickly reached Twitter, which is a hotbed of conservative views not only in Poland and the USA, but also in the UK. JK Rowling spoke – of course.
JK Rowling “willingly go to jail”
The best-selling author has repeatedly made it clear that the inclusivity of language hurts her personally. He consistently maintains that transition does not matter. He most often attacks trans women, calling them “men in dresses.”
In the past, actors playing the main roles in the Harry Potter film series have distanced themselves from her views. Undeterred, Rowling continues her crusade. Upon learning of a possible two-year prison sentence for intentionally using incorrect pronouns for a transgender person, the author wrote:
I will gladly serve two years if the alternative is forced language and denial of the reality and validity of biological sex. Please let the court judge me. It will be much better than any red carpet – she wrote on Twitter / X.
She also added what would happen if the regulations actually came into force:
Of course I hope to work in a library, but I think I could also do well in the kitchen. Laundry can be a problem. I have special skills – I can shrink any clothes or accidentally dye them pink. But I don’t think it will be a big problem since the laundry will mainly be bed linen and rags.
There is a significant risk that the next installment of Rowling’s crusade is just getting started.
