The most dangerous for the health of the heart and blood vessels are trans fats, salt and sugar, said cardiologist Anna Biryukova.
As Gazeta.Ru reports, the specialist added that regular consumption of processed meat products and semi-finished products containing flavor enhancers, preservatives and stabilizers in high concentrations can harm the cardiovascular system.
According to the doctor, the body is not able to absorb trans fats. Therefore, being in the blood for a long time, they increase the level of “bad” cholesterol and increase the risk of developing atherosclerosis. Biryukova recalled that trans fats are used in the production of fat and oil products, fast food and confectionery products and are often hidden behind such terms as culinary, hydrogenated, vegetable modified, saturated fat, special purpose fat.
Excessive salt intake can also damage your heart function. The saltiest, according to her, are bread, sausages, smoked meats, fast food, processed foods, bouillon cubes, canned food, chips, olives, tomato juice, mayonnaise and sauces. Daily excess salt consumption leads to fluid retention in the body, the development of edema, hypertension and other diseases of the cardiovascular system, the specialist noted.
Finally, excessive sugar consumption is also harmful to the heart. In addition to metabolic disorders and obesity, sugar also causes a severe lack of thiamine, which can lead to dystrophy of the heart muscle.
