In England it is called Houndstooth, i.e. dog’s tooth, and in France Pied-de-Poule – chicken’s foot. In Poland, its name refers to the Spanish word pepita. Of course, it’s a houndstooth pattern, which some people simply call a kicked checkered pattern. Its history dates back to the 17th century, when shepherds in Sweden began to wear lambs in woolen, tweed rugs, on which this popular pattern appeared for the first time. To whom does this characteristic grille owe its later fame?

The history of houndstooth dates back to these times. It was launched by the world’s biggest names

The pattern gained not a folk, but a luxurious character thanks to its promotion by Coco Chanel in the 1920s. She showed it to a wider and sophisticated audience, thanks to which the kicked grate became a motif present not only in fashion – Christian Dior himself decorated the packaging of his first perfume in this way. The houndstooth pattern also became famous all over the world thanks to the former prince, now King Charles III, who very often appeared in characteristic checkered suits. Nowadays, this is one of the features of British fashion, also for women, that every woman will be able to use in style.

Houndstooth coats will rule in the fall. They are an expression of great style and class

The kicked-up check is consistent with the strongest trends of this season. Classic black and white houndstooth coats appear in the collections of popular brands, such as the model from Answear. However, there are many variations of this pattern. A slightly modified “dog’s tooth” look attracts attention in the patterned C&A coat, which will work well with any style.
