Daniel Maurate, Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE), stated that more than half of young people in Peru have studied careers that do not have labor demand in the market.

In addition, he indicated that the ‘Ponte en Carrera’ Education and Employment Observatory is being strengthened to address this problem. “We are working to combat occupational lack of education; in Peru, 6 out of 10 young people have opted for careers without demand and after graduating, they find themselves without employment. That is the sad reality of young people,” Maurate commented on Canal N.

Maurate also noted that there are currently more than 460 young people graduating from high school, compared to 2016. However, only 108,000 of them access higher education. “Our human capital has regressed; approximately 340,000 young people who finish school do not continue with any type of study, neither in institutes nor universities,” she warned.

Demand for technical careers

In that sense, he emphasized that the labor market requires technical professionals andHe stressed the need to train the instinct for technical careers such as the SENA (National Learning Service) in Colombia or the INA (National Learning Institute) in Costa Rica.

This is because, until now, there are only public universities and there is no outstanding institute for technical careers, which is one of the main demands of the market.
