Mincetur: war in Israel should not have a relevant commercial impact in Peru

The war started by terrorist group Hamas in Israelwhich has already claimed the lives of hundreds of Palestinians and Israelis, will not directly affect the peruvian economyaccording to the Minister of Tourism and Foreign Trade, Juan Carlos Mathews.

“In principle, there should not be any direct impact, but it is sad news and even more so with two deaths of Peruvians in Israelwe hope the number does not continue to increase, pBut beyond that there should be no relevant commercial impact“Matthews said this morning.

In that sense, the head of Mincetur explained that the country has a diversified portfolio of input suppliers and stressed that this is supported by the 22 free trade agreements (FTAs) that Peru has.

“We have a commercial economic advantage, which is that we have a fairly well distributed commercial pie between North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America. It is an advantage because we can redirect the placement of products to different markets“, he mentioned.

However, Mathews recognized that the war will have a global impact, as was already seen in the international price of oil, which at the beginning of the week skyrocketed and was approaching US$90 per barrel.

“Let us remember that we are in a economy globalized, everything that happens can affect us; since we have experienced an even more complicated situation when the invasion of Russia to Ukraine, that occurred in a pronounced way in the world. Fuel becomes more expensive, everything becomes more expensive, obviously there are prejudices, but what I am saying is that we have different suppliers and different markets and that gives us greater strength than other economies,” he concluded.
