The Spanish singer shared in an online press conference the details of the recent album that bears his name and which he assures reconnects him with his roots.
He recently finished a tour of the United States. He started in Chicago, last October, and before closing 2021 he meets again not only with the public that has followed him since he started singing on stage at age 21, but with the media, which have accompanied him in his career. The spanish singer Alejandro Sanz premieres Sanz, an album that defines as the return to its roots, to its essence and that serves as an excuse for this digital meeting in which EL UNIVERSO participated.
Sanz, 52, assures that the time in a pandemic has allowed him to work on the album that he longed to produce. “It was an album dedicating all the time in the world to him, taking care of the details and the quality of each of the arrangements, on that side very well. Making a record is the way I have to express my way of feeling ”, he says about this production that compiles ten songs.
“After a long time and many years of career, you realize that the more roots, more wings and the more international you want to be, the more local you have to be. That is, I don’t go back to my neighborhood because I never really left there, but after having made presentations in places of great renown, bombastic and returning to the neighborhood, to the place where I started playing for the first time and being able to show there my a new job, it seems to me an act of poetry, of poetic courage, ”says the man from Madrid.
Sanz, who plans to perform in Latin America next April and resume -in June- his postponed tour in Spain, assures that “it is always good to get along with the memories.” “Forgiving and forgetting certain things because it is definitely no use transferring all of that to the present and much less to the future. Nostalgia is not bad, what is really dangerous is melancholy. When you stay anchored in nostalgia and you can’t get out of that feeling, then, I think you have to befriend the memories, it is very important to know where we come from, what we are and where we want to travel, but yes, without allowing that affect your making of important decisions that you will have to make throughout your life, but especially in the present, which is the only real time that exists ”, comments the artist about this production that took him to visit Moratalaz, the district Madrid where he grew up and on which there is now a bridge that bears the name of one of his mythical songs, Broken heart.
When asked who and what the current Alejandro Sanz is like, the interpreter responds: “That is difficult to say because perspective is the best tool to see a person over time and I still do not have that. I have changed in many things obviously and that is obvious, I mean that the passage of time is there and it teaches you many things too. It teaches you to relativize some things, it teaches you to give importance to others that perhaps before you did not give so much importance and now they do and above all to know the value of what you do and what matters to you. For example, in the case of the album, I had a great need to tell the emotion of the way I have done it all my life. In other words, dig a little in my memories and in my way of how I made records ”. Sanz adds that this pandemic has given him the opportunity to sit down and ‘lose’ all the time in the world making the album he wanted to make, taking care of the details, making all the songs have a single voice and that all the sounds, both the Analogue as well as digital, form a communion and say something at the end.
A real artist of honest lyrics
His album, with songs produced by him, Alfonso Pérez and Javier Limón, with a work of mixes by Peter Walsh, has also been classified as a reflection of his essence. The visual aspect is based on that concept. It is Alejandro himself who takes the self-portraits that illustrate the album covers.
“It is important that what you see in the mirror is a reflection of who you are and that you do not try to deceive yourself. If you start to fool yourself in front of the mirror, we are going bad, you start the day very badly. Normally I try to be very honest with myself, I try not to deceive myself, that although it seems obvious it is not so obvious and we tend to deceive ourselves many times and tell ourselves what we want to hear, so it is important to face the challenges that appear in your life and precisely from That speaks a little about the album, that is why we have placed so much emphasis on the mirror, on the self-portrait, because it is a way of showing that in the end the most important thing about what you are going to tell is an album that is really honest and consistent with what you are ”.
With this album “I have pretended to be more myself than ever and this is not always achieved on records, we artists always say that the last album is the most personal, but I think that in this case we have been very close to this. You have to accept the passage of time, if you become an enemy of time you are going to lose ”, he says.
“The album was the result of deep reflection and I needed the name of the album not to distract from the content. The name of the album is an accessory, one more trinket and we have come to the conclusion that you have to be very specific in what you are going to call it. I have put SANZ that represents the essence of what is shown there ”, Alejandro Sanz.
The album has 10 songs, a number that he defines as magical for a record material, which will be released this December 10. “All the songs have a voice, I like that when they finish listening to the album it has been like a journey from beginning to end. I can’t tell you which one for me is my favorite but obviously it was very important to get the first song out BIO, because I think it’s a statement of intent entirely.
