Jan Holoubek, before he very successfully stepped into the director’s shoes, was a valued cinematographer for years. Since his debut as a director with the series “Rojst”, he has also been using the skills of his “first” profession while working on the set. Watch the interview with Jan Holoubek:
Jan Holoubek: Actors on set often see more about their characters than I do
In the film “Doppelganger. Doppelganger”, which opens in cinemas on September 29, he worked, among others, with Jakub Gierszał and Tomasz Schuchardt. What did he say in an interview with Gazeta.pl on the set of the new production?
I work a lot with actors before they get on set. I talk to them about these roles, we discuss the script, we discuss the dialogues, and when they come to the set, they actually already know a lot about their characters – often more than I do. I only slightly correct them to the left or right, but I don’t have to do any basic work here.
“Doppelganger. Doppelganger” with an international cast
Holoubek’s new film is a story about Hans (Gierszał), who lives in Strasbourg and conducts espionage activities. The second hero is Jan Bitner (Schuchardt), who works in the shipyard and lives in Gdańsk. They are both searching for their identity. – What’s cool about this script is that, of course, these characters are not black and white, they only have their gray zones – says the director.
In addition to Gierszał and Schuchardt, the cast included: Andrzej Seweryn, Wiktoria Gorodeckaja, Katarzyna Herman, Sławomira Łozińska, Krzysztof Dracz, Adam Ferency, Zofia Stafiej, Emily Kusche, Nathalie Richard, Joachim Raaf and Jessica McIntyre. The author of the script is Jan Gołda (collaboration: Jan Holoubek), and the cinematography is Bartłomiej Kaczmarek.
