The case of the “skin hunters” is one of the largest journalistic investigations and one of the most famous scandals in Poland after 1989. Tomasz Patora, who revealed this case in 2002, returned 20 years later with a shocking reportage showing the behind-the-scenes of these shocking events, which cost the lives of hundreds of people and exposed the helplessness of the services and the darkest sides of human nature. The book appeared on the bestseller lists immediately after its release.
“Skin hunters. “Crime Mysteries in the Łódź Emergency Room” will be shown on the screen. The film version of the reportage has been purchased
Wydawnictwo Otwarte, which published Tomasz Patory’s powerful book, announced that Fremantle Polska, a television and film production company belonging to the RTL Group, has acquired the film option of the reportage. Apparently, the events described by Patora will soon appear on the screen.
The story of the “skin hunters” is one of the most shocking elements of the history of free Poland. The Łódź ambulance crews contributed to the death of about a thousand people transported in ambulances. For a few thousand zlotys for the “skin” (body), paid by undertakers, the paramedics crossed all limits of human brutality. The pavulon used in the murders left no traces, nothing was proven, no one was actually responsible for these organized mass crimes.
“I wanted as many people as possible to know the story of these murderers”
“One of the reasons why I wrote The Skin Hunters was the awareness that I had to do everything to make the story of the murderers from the Łódź ambulance service known to as wide an audience as possible. On the one hand, it is an extremely important, terrifying and tragic story, but on the other – it is fascinating, unique in its from a criminal point of view and unique on a global scale. I hope that we will be able to create a picture worthy of this great story.” – Tomasz Patora talks about his reportage.
