– We’re starting this day unusually. In front of the lie factory. It is here that the government television prepares materials every day that have nothing to do with reality and are intended to support the ruling party in the campaign – with these words Donald Tusk began the conference in front of the TAI headquarters.
Later, he referred to the Friday speech of the Speaker of the Senate, Tomasz Grodzki, which was broadcast on TVP1. “Millions of Polish women and men who only have access to ‘information’, propaganda persevering in this factory of lies, learned about several basic facts thanks to this message.” And that’s when the national media presenter, Michał Rachoń, who is known for his controversial ideas, appeared at the conference.

At this point, the TVP star probably surpassed all his previous actions and started to argue. He did not respond at all to calls by Tusk, PO politicians and current collaborators to calm down and remain calm. He shouted questions, including: about retirement age and his meeting with Vladimir Putin on the Sopot pier, but they were not clearly audible due to the lack of a microphone.
The national media presenter did not want to leave and started a fight. Civic Platform politicians told him to invite Tusk to the studio, then he would get answers. Rachoń, however, did not care about it and at one point there were even arguments between him and the leader of Agrounia, Michał Kołodziejczak.
Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz, Borys Budka and other PO representatives who accompanied Tusk called the police, but no officer appeared in front of TVP for several minutes. After the conference, the former prime minister said that he was in some way grateful to Rachon, who disrupted the conference, as his behavior perfectly showed what propaganda and the type of party functionary who earns huge amounts of money are all about.
Who is Michał Rachoń?
The 44-year-old presenter comes from Tricity and was a basketball player in the past. However, he quickly found that sport could not be his primary occupation, and from his youth he was also interested in politics, he graduated in political science from the University of Gdańsk. After graduating, he was supposed to be close to the Civic Platform, but in 2002 he became an activist of Law and Justice.
From July 2008 to January 2012, he was the spokesman for Law and Justice in Sopot, being involved in the referendum on the dismissal of the President of Sopot, Jacek Karnowski, in May 2009. Moreover, during Vladimir Putin’s stay at the Sheraton hotel in Sopot, Rachoń dressed as a penis activist and protested against his visit to Poland.
He later started his career as a journalist. Initially, he wrote for “Gazeta Polska”, the associated daily “Gazeta Polska Dzień”, the monthly “Niezależna Gazeta Polska – Nowe Miasto” and the portal niezalezna.pl. Then it was time for right-wing television – in 2013 he started hosting programs on TV Republika, and after PiS took power, he joined Telewizja Polska and later also Polish Radio.
He has had many scandals related to his media activities. The most famous is the release of the “Woronicza 17” program on May 13, 2018, when politicians from PO, Nowoczesna and PSL left the studio to boycott the journalist and the program, calling him a spokesman for the ruling party. Shortly thereafter, representatives of these parties accused Rachon of practicing propaganda and demanded that he be removed from running the program.
However, this did not happen and Rachoń continues to shine as one of the biggest stars of TVP journalism. His style of presenting programs resembles that of the American television FOX News, which is known for supporting politicians of the Republican party. Recently, Rachoń produced the documentary series “Reset”, which is supposed to expose Donald Tusk’s alleged connections with Vladimir Putin and Russia. However, the series contains many inaccuracies and is just another propaganda creation supporting the ruling party’s narrative.
