Forecasters of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predict that the weather in the coming months will be dominated by the El Niño phenomenon. We talk about the occurrence of this phenomenon when the surface temperature of the water of the Pacific Ocean is above average high. How will it affect this winter?
Are we in for the winter of the century?
According to forecasters, this year’s winter in Europe will be characterized by temperatures above the norm in the south and east of the continent, and lower in the west and north. In the southern and central part of Europe, including Poland, there will be heavy rainfall. This theory is also confirmed by maps developed by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management. They show that in December, the sum of precipitation in Poland will most likely be above the long-term norm. There may also be severe frosts.
The forecast is indicative
Experts point out, however, that long-term forecasts are indicative. “Despite the increasing computing power of supercomputers and extensive knowledge of weather processes, errors and differences in forecasts for such a long period of time in the future cannot be avoided” – emphasize experts from the Meteorological Modeling Center.
