JA Bayona and Hirokazu Kore-eda among the filmmakers who will compete in the Perlak section of the Zinemaldia

Seventeen renowned filmmakers from all over the world will make up the Perlak selection for the 71st edition of the San Sebastian Festival. the reward for the best film award is 50,000 euros and the award for the best European film gets 20,000 euros.
The films that compete in the Perlak section —except for the closing one— are candidates for the City of Donostia / San Sebastián Audience Award, which is awarded by the public attending the first screening of the film.
The filmmakers that make up the Perlak selection are Maite Alberdi (with infinite memory), Nikolaj Arcel (with The Promised Land), JA Bayonne (with The Snow Society), Stephanie DiGiusto (with The Dancer), michel frank (with Memory), Matteo Garrone (with I’m Captain), Craig Gillespie (with Heist Wall Street), Jonathan Glazer (with the area of interest), ryusuke hamaguchi (with Evil Does Not Exist) Todd Haynes (with Secrets of a scandal), here kaurismaki (with Fallen Leaves) hirokazu kore-eda (with Monster), Christian Petzold (with The Red Sky), Celine song (with Past Lives), Warwick Thornton (with The New Boy) Justin Triet (with Anatomy of a Fall) and Wim Wenders (with Perfect Days).
Jonathan Glazer’s ‘The Zone of Interest’ will open the Audience Award section and Ladj Ly’s new film, ‘Bâtiment 5’, will close it out of competition.
