After last year the United Kingdom eliminated the visa requirement for Peruvians to enter this territory, last Thursday LATAM Airlines Peru officially announced the launch of its direct flights between Lima and London, marking a milestone in its operational history. These flights are scheduled to start on Friday, December 1 and will take place five times a week.
“With our direct flights to London Heathrow International Airport, we became the first Peruvian airline to fly to London In a direct way. This, added to the wide deployment of the start of operations in the last months of the year, continues to strengthen our commitment to the country and Peruvians,” said Manuel van Oordt, CEO of LATAM Airlines Peru.
For the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), this new route will bring more English tourists to our country and will improve the air connectivity of this European territory with Peru.
The airline indicated that this operation, subject to certain administrative authorizations, contemplates flights of 12 hours duration.
The flights will be carried out in Boeing 789 aircraft, a modern fleet with capacity for a total of 300 passengers, distributed in 30 seats in the Premium Business cabin and 270 in Economy.
Impact on tourism
Carlos Loayza, general manager of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), points out that direct flights to London will generate a greater flow of English tourists to our country. However, he stressed that the number of visitors will depend on the final number of frequencies enabled.
“Although initially a basic weekly frequency is proposed, the final result will depend on the response of both the national and English markets,” he commented.
Finally, he suggested that as the flow of tourists matures, they could develop packages and programs of cultural and academic exchange.
The data
Without visa. Since November 9 of last year, Peruvians who wish to travel to the United Kingdom for less than 6 months can only do so with a passport. They must be tourist trips, business, international events, medical care, among others.
