Him: an actor and director respected in the theater community, we know him, among others, from from “Decalogue” by Krzysztof KieÅ›lowski and “Korczak” by Andrzej Wajda. He created the legendary “Three Sisters” for the Television Theater and was a mentor to many talented actors and actresses.
She: a theater, film and television actress, an appreciated cabaret artist, whom we remember, among others, in for his role in the TV series Wojna Domowa and Czterdziestolatek directed by Jerzy Gruza. She appeared in TGreen Goose, Old Gentlemen Cabaretrecorded many radio programs for the youngest.
She was impervious to his charms
They studied together at the State Institute of Theater Arts, which they graduated in 1935. Bardini courted Kwiatkowska, but without success. “She pretended not to notice me. And she was the most talented student in her year, so this pretending was easy for her,” Bardini joked, recalling Kwiatkowska fondly years later. He said she treated him with condescension and polite indulgence. He wasn’t the only one. “This is how she treated everyone who tried to win her favor” – he said. And Kwiatkowska was very focused on learning, her studies absorbed her completely and she had no dating in mind.
Although their paths often crossed socially in later years, they spoke little to each other, mostly pleasantries. Professionally, they didn’t have much in common either. Bardini appreciated Kwiatkowska’s unquestionable talent, but could not see her in any of the roles he cast. They worked together only once, on the performance “Jeszcze Dulska” in 1972.
