More about security on the website Sub-inspector Małgorzata Sokołowska works at the Warsaw Police Headquarters and runs an Instagram account called: . He posts there safety tips, as well as police curiosities and crime puzzles. This time she decided to explain to fans of two wheels what they should not forget when getting on a bike.
Cyclists often forget this
In Poland, the network of bicycle paths is still growing. Some people believe that we are far behind other European countries in this respect, but it is already much better than a few or several years ago. Bicycle paths are used not only by cyclists, but also by those who ride rollerblades, skateboards and electric scooters. It can get really crowded at times, so be careful. Of course, the most important thing is to follow the rules, but it is also worth remembering about protection in the form of a helmet. Cyclists often forget about it or think that they do not need a helmet, but sub-inspector Małgorzata Sokołowska has a different opinion on this subject.
A policewoman shows the effects of not wearing a helmet
In one of her recordings, a policewoman decided to demonstrate what can happen during a bicycle accident. She used watermelon for this purpose. “The use of a helmet while riding a bicycle or scooter is not mandatory,” she said, adding that she would show why she always recommends wearing a helmet.
She dropped a watermelon on the sidewalk that served as a head. As a result of the impact with a hard surface, it crashed. Then she presented the “same fall” wearing a helmet. The watermelon didn’t crash. “See the difference already?” asked the policewoman.
Riding in a helmet, of course, does not guarantee safety, but it significantly reduces the risk of head injuries in possible accidents. However, for the helmet to fulfill its role, it must be well-fitting and, above all, fastened.
