The information about the death of Robbie Robertson was confirmed by the artist’s management. Jared Levine, who took care of the musician’s career for 34 years, informed the media that the artist died on August 9 in Los Angeles after a long illness.

“Robbie was surrounded by his family at the time of his death,” Levine said. He added that Robertson had recently completed his fourteenth music project with Martin Scorsese. He worked with the director on the sounds for the highly anticipated movie “Killers of the Flower Moon”. Levine noted that the family of the deceased asked not to bring flowers to the funeral. Instead, Robertson’s relatives are asking for donations to the Six Nations of the Grand River, Canada’s largest indigenous reservation demographically.
Robbie Robertson, actually Jaime Royal Robertson, was born in 1943. In the mid-1960s, he gained popularity as the lead guitarist in Bob Dylan’s band. In 1967, together with Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Levon Helm and Richard Manuel, he founded the legendary rock band The Band. He created songs such as “The Weight”, “Up on Cripple Creek”, “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” and “The Shape I’m In”. Although the group played a farewell concert after only nine years of activity, the artists’ music influenced subsequent generations of artists for many decades.

The concert “The Last Waltz” crowning The Band’s career was filmed by Martin Socrsese himself. Robertson became friends with the director, with whom he worked for years as a composer and music producer. He co-created sounds for such films as “The Irishman”, “Wolf of Wall Street”, “Shutter Island” or “King of Comedy”.
In an interview for Variety two weeks before his death, the artist talked about his 55-year collaboration with Martin Scorsese. “We ourselves are surprised that our brotherly bond survived all this,” the musician confessed before his death. “I am proud of our friendship and work. It was a great gift from life” – he added.
