Jazz and much more, in the Jazzaldia San Sebastian
Euskaraz irakurri: Jazza eta askoz gehiago, Donostiako Jazzaldian
San Sebastián is already moving and singing to the rhythm of jazz. Everything is prepared for 16 stages to host more than 90 concerts: Trinitate Plaza, Keler Gunea (Zurriola beach), Kursaal Auditorioa, FCC Victoria Eugenia Antzokia, Škoda San Telmo Museoa, Frigo Gunea, Fnac Gunea, Chillida Leku, Kutxa Fundazioa (Tabakalera), Sala Club, Nauticool, Garbera, San Martin Merkatua, Irún, Fnac For uma and the Maria Cristina Hotel.
But who will fill these stages with music? The 58th edition of Jazzaldia in San Sebastián presents a lineup full of names and very diverse proposals: Norah Jones, Ben Harper, Joss Stone, Pat Metheny, Village People, Abdullah Ibrahim, Kenny Barron, Enrico Rava, Bill Frisell, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Yosuke Yamashita, Fred Wesley & The New JB’s, Jerry Bergonzi, Eri Yamamoto, Bamba Wassoulou Gro ove, Michele Hendricks & Ronald Baker Project…
Bringing American musician Norah Jones (New York, 1979) to San Sebastián has been a longstanding wish of the festival’s director, Miguel Martín, and the public has responded. Tickets, at 95 euros, for the concert that the pianist, guitarist and singer who achieved massive success with her mix of jazz and pop on her album “Come away with me” will offer on Saturday at the Kursaal sold out in a jiffy.
There will be other great concerts in the coming days, such as Kenny Barron and the Youth Orchestra of the Basque Country on Friday (Kursaal), Ben Harper & The Innocen Criminals (Kursaal, all tickets sold) and Abdullah Ibrahim Trio (Trinidad) on Sunday, Pat Metheny on Monday (Kursaal, no tickets left) and Rocío Márquez and Bronquio on Tuesday (Kursaal).
In addition, the Keler stage, located on Zurriola beach, will offer a program that is more open to other genres (Village People, Viva Suecia, ZETAK), and Jazzaldia will offer different concerts by Basque musicians and artists: Elena Setién, Arima Soul, Xahu, Motelas, Arnaud Labastie Trio, Nakar, Mikel Legasa’s Quintet, Kinkfolk, Ramada Inn…
Awards
The musicians Abdullah Ibrahim, Enrico Rava and Yosuke Yamashita will receive the awards at the 58th edition of the San Sebastián jazz festival, which will be held from July 21 to 25.
