Almost five billion people, or just over 60% of the world’s population, actively use social networks, Interfax reports, citing a study by digital consulting firm Kepios.

The study notes that the number of social media users has grown by 3.7% since 2022 and has approached the size of the entire Internet audience (5.19 billion people). The amount of time people spend on social media has also increased, to an average of 2 hours 26 minutes a day.

Women aged 16-24 spend the most time on social networks. Least of all interest is shown by men aged 55-64.

The average social media user has connections to seven platforms, the most popular of which are WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook (owned by Meta, which is recognized as an extremist organization in Russia and banned).

At the same time, according to researchers, the amount of time that people spend on social networks significantly depends on the region. Thus, in East and Central Africa, only one in 11 people uses social networks. In India, which is now the most populous country in the world, the figure is one in three.
