Nuts are a good source of many nutrients, as well as vitamins such as E, B1 and B2. Can you give them to a dog? Including this product in your pet’s diet can have a positive effect on its health. However, remember to exercise moderation. Too many nuts in a dog’s diet can be harmful to him. For this reason, it is worth giving them to your dog in small amounts, at most once a week.

The type of food you give your pet is also very important. The safest choices are almonds and cashews. For these varieties, be aware of their high fat content. If your dog eats them too often, he can gain a lot of weight. Peanuts, on the other hand, are no longer such a good ingredient in the diet. While they themselves are not poisonous to pets, they can lead to stomach problems. The same is true for pistachios. Never feed your pet walnuts or macadamia. These types have a fatal effect on the nervous system and muscles. Also remember to give your pet unseasoned products. Salt and other spices can be very harmful to it.

Some should never be included in a dog’s diet. These include:

  • onion and garlic – the substances contained in them (such as, for example, N-propyl disulfide) have a bad effect on the pet’s health. The consumption of these types of products by the dog can lead to the destruction of red blood cells,
  • grapes and raisins – grape consumption can even result in the death of a dog. Fruit, both fresh and dried, lead to poisoning of the quadruped’s body. Consuming even a few grams often leads to health problems,
  • coffee, tea and other caffeinated beverages – caffeine has fatal effects on the animal’s nervous system. The first symptoms may appear a few hours after consuming a product rich in this ingredient. It is believed that as little as 7 coffee beans per kilogram of body weight can lead to the death of a dog.

What products should we not give to the dog too often? These are primarily nightshade plants, i.e. tomatoes, potatoes, peppers or eggplant. Most vegetables of this type can be given to your pet only after heat treatment. But remember moderation. If your pet eats too much of them, it can get severely poisoned. Symptoms such as irritation of the mucous membranes, diarrhea and vomiting usually appear several hours after eating the plants.

Another product that should not be included in your pet’s diet too often is bread. Bread is very fattening, and what’s worse, it heavily burdens the digestive system. Long-term feeding of these types of products can cause long-term health problems for the animal.

Some dogs also like fruit. Does this mean that they can eat them without restrictions? Not necessarily. At the beginning, it is worth checking if the pooch is not allergic to a specific plant, e.g. strawberries. If your pet does not experience any unwanted reactions, you can easily include them in the diet. Remember, however, that strawberries should not be the main point of the menu. Serve them only as a nutritional supplement.
