Omar França, priest of the Santa Bernardita parish in Malvín (a neighborhood of Montevideo), reported to the authorities the attack on street residents by a group of people.

It was indicated through an audio signal that it was already a third case of a homeless resident being attacked in the street late one morning by a group of four men using baseball bats. The story was picked up by the portal The daily.

In other antecedents, polytrauma to the arm and some fractures were recorded. Therefore, it was decided to submit the complaint in question so that it is registered and requested to communicate other matters to join the case.

“They don’t want to press charges because they say the police just don’t believe them because they’re bystanders, because they say it’s just revenge between them,” it added.

França told the portal that the complaint will be filed along with other volunteers and clarified that they still have no evidence, although the testimonials may help.

Interior Ministry adviser Andrés Capretti Casal met with the priest. The Radio Montecarlo portal explained that these attacks have a three-month history.

Currently there are no new reports of attacks of this type.

It is not the first time that these events have been reported, in 2022 the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) had already received complaints about similar cases.
