Film star Tom Holland has called drinking “the best thing he ever did” after realizing he had become a “slave” to alcohol.
speaking for the podcast Deliberately with Jay Shetty, the star said her sobriety journey began with a “very, very drunk” Christmas last year.
According to what he said, after deciding that he would abstain from drinking alcohol during the month of January, “all I could think about was drinking. It scared me.”
– I said to myself: maybe I have a little problem with alcohol.
This realization prompted him to extend his no-drink rule for another month, but he had a hard time resisting the alcohol culture.

“I felt like I couldn’t be social,” Holland said. “I felt like I couldn’t go to a bar and drink lemonade. I couldn’t go out to dinner. It was really hard for me“.
“I just said to myself: why? Why am I a slave to this drink? Why am I so obsessed with the idea of drinking?
Shocked, he set himself a goal of not drinking for six months, and on his 27th birthday, June 1, he realized he had strayed.
Until then, he said, it was “happier than ever“.

Benefits
The star mentioned some of the benefits she felt since she stopped drinking.
“I could sleep better. I could handle problems better,” he said. “Things that went wrong on the set, which would have bothered me otherwise, I could calmly accept. I had much more mental clarity. I felt healthier, in shape”.
“I am pleased to say: he was definitely addicted to alcohol. I don’t deny that at all.”
The Spider-Man star added that sobriety has had some side effects.
He distanced himself from the rugby community, “because so much is about how much you can drink”. And he also inspired his mother to stay sober.
“He loves it. It was amazing,” he said. “I can’t believe the difference I feel when I’m not drinking. Yeah, I feel amazing.”
a difficult role

Holland hasn’t acted in 9 months, after a busy shoot for the Apple TV series A crowded roomafter which he decided to take a year off.
Last month, the star said he found it “difficult” to play a character based on “rapist” Billy Milligan, an American who claimed to have 24 different personalities.
Milligan was the first person in the US to be found not guilty of his crimes by reason of mental incapacity – because of his dissociative identity disorder – and instead of prison he spent a decade in psychiatric hospitals.
“We were exploring certain emotions that I’ve definitely never experienced before,” Holland told Extra TV.
“And on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day issues that come up on every shoot, just added another level of pressure.”
“Now I’m taking a year off and that’s a result of how difficult this series was“.

Despite his difficult problems last year, the actor had the support of his girlfriend and co-star from Spiderman, zendaya.
speaking for the podcast Brainless last week, he said he’s “lucky” to have someone like Zendaya in his life.
“It’s interesting to be in a romantic relationship with someone who is in the same boat as you,” he added.
“You can share your experiences and all that stuff, and that is worth its weight in gold“.
