Argentina: Investigate Javier Milei’s party for alleged sale of candidacies

The Argentine electoral Justice ordered this Tuesday to open an investigation against the libertarian political party La Libertad Avanza (LLA), led by the ultraliberal economist, deputy and pre-candidate for president javier mileidue to possible sales of candidacies for the general elections this year.

The federal electoral prosecutor Ramiro González requested the testimony of ex-collaborators of the Milei campaign and the businessman and leader in the fight against insecurity Juan Carlos Blumberg, after publicly accusing the libertarian group of asking for money in exchange for joining their lists.

Blumberg briefly joined the ultraliberal force, offering bills linked to the issue of insecurity, but ended up leaving the political arena, accusing them of making a “business” of politics, since they asked for up to 50,000 dollars (45,410 euros at today’s exchange rate) for a candidacy.

Milei used her social networks to defend herself against the accusations and assured that in LLA each member must finance themselves with their own money.

“The one who comes to put stays in this space (here each one benches with their own). Anyone who wants to come here to see if he steals a little charge gets ejected. Report all you want”Milei defended herself on her Twitter account.

As a result of this situation, a former ally of the economist, the media lawyer Carlos Maslatón, said that Milei sells “charges through a political franchisee.”

“Milei, you are not being questioned by the ‘barrani’ funds (in black) to finance your campaign. They are objecting to you, even your own people, that, instead of carrying genuine militants on the lists, you sold the positions through a political franchisee with payment for you “wrote.

It is the first time that Argentine courts have opened an investigation into allegations of alleged sale of candidacies.

For the moment, the Justice will investigate the internal functioning of the party to find out if there is a crime or not. Upon learning of the court decision, Milei was confident in his social networks: “Excellent. All those who said unfounded atrocities are now going to have to go to Justice to support them. Let’s see if they take over.”

Almost a month before the presidential primaries, which will be held on August 13, most polls place the Libertarian candidate in third position, with a voting intention that varies between fifteen% and the twenty%.
