On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Telewizja ‘Trwam’, father Tadeusz Rydzyk gave an interview in which he reminisced about the beginnings of the station. As he claims, his idea of creating Catholic media was supported even by John Paul II.

Telewizja “Trwam” officially started broadcasting on June 10, 2003. Although 20 years have passed since then, the station still enjoys unflagging popularity among the faithful. — Without them, we are mute — father about the Catholic media.

Father Rydzyk talks about the beginnings of the Catholic media. He revealed what prompted him to create Telewizja “Trwam”.

On the occasion of the jubilee of the Television ‘Trwam’, the magazine ‘Nasz Dziennik’ published an interview with Father Tadeusz Rydzyk. Before the station was established, at the end of 1991, , which today is the largest Catholic radio station in Poland, was established. — I explained to people: (…) “A group of people manipulates the nation and attacks, destroys the Church, because this group has the media. And here is the problem” – he recalled the beginnings.

He admitted that the idea of the inauguration sprouted over the years and was his “great desire from the moment he became a priest.” After the success of the radio station, a course was created, conducted by experienced public television. About 20 young people applied for the workshop, but ultimately only two took an active part in the creation of Telewizja “Trwam”. “We were saving pennies for pennies to buy a camera. That’s how it was created, but God led, sent co-workers who understood the Gospel message and wanted to serve with their talents – he said.

John Paul II supported Father Rydzyk’s idea? The priest appeals to the faithful

Surprisingly, Father Rydzyk claims that even John Paul II supported the idea of creating a Catholic station. The Pope allegedly asked him many times about the progress of these plans. — When I was invited to dinner at the Holy Father’s for the first time, John Paul II asked me “When is the TV?”. I replied “If the Holy Father will bless, it will be next year”. At subsequent meetings, John Paul II often returned to this topic, one could feel the extraordinary love and kindness of the Holy Father, he recalled, adding that the Pope’s support made him decide to take this idea seriously.

Father Rydzyk admits that he still has many plans for the development of the media, but at the moment he is limited by funds, without which he is unable to implement his ideas. However, he believes that thanks to the support of the faithful, he will be able to expand his activities with new projects in the future. – I also think about good films, reportages. However, such materials cost a lot. If all listeners and TV viewers felt responsible and everyone systematically helped every month, we would be able to do it – he concluded.
