John Stamos had the Olsen twins fired from Full House. “Get rid of them, I can’t work like this”

“Full House” is one of the most popular sitcoms of the late 1980s and early 1990s, and the twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, who played one character alternately, later became America’s biggest child stars thanks to this production. It was almost impossible for the viewers to recognize them, because John Stamos, who played one of the main roles, ordered the sisters to be released.

“Full House” is a series about a widower (Bob Saget as Danny Tanner) with three daughters who, after the death of his wife, asks for help in raising the children of his brother-in-law Jessy (John Stamos) and friend Joey (Dave Coulier). It’s not easy for the three guys, especially since one of the girls – DJ (Candace Cameron) – is almost a teenager and has to share a room with Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), an elementary school student. Added to this is the issue of caring for less than a year old Michelle (the Olsen twins). Although the series never gained particular critical acclaim, viewers loved it, and the production, which aired from 1987 to 1995, remained at the forefront of the most watched titles on television for a long time. Numerous reruns broadcast in countries all over the world, including Poland, had excellent results.

There’s no doubt that twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who take turns playing Michelle Tanner, have become America’s favorites. The sisters literally grew up before the eyes of the audience and transformed from adorable little ones into perky preschoolers with considerable charisma. They successfully played in various family comedies about twins, and quickly earned their own brand selling gadgets signed with their names. They joined the cast of “Full House” as 11-month-old children, and the beginnings of their work on the set were not the easiest. The atmosphere was so thick that John Stamos, who played Uncle Jessy, ordered the twins to be fired.

– We were shooting a scene where me and Joey are changing a diaper. Danny’s gone and he’s telling us to take care of the kids. We carry the toddler down the stairs – I held the baby under the armpits and Dace Coulier held the little foot. Downstairs in the kitchen we’re rinsing the kid and they’re both screaming at the top of their voices. As if they wanted to be anywhere but there. I didn’t want to be there either,” he recently told the “Good Guys” podcast. The situation was getting more and more tense:

Every now and then they switched children, because they claimed that this particular sister would not scream. I couldn’t stand it and screamed that it wouldn’t work. I shouted it 10 times: Get rid of them, I can’t work like this.

Then they brought a couple of red-haired children. I’m sure their parents love them and thought they were very pretty children. But they weren’t, and it had nothing to do with being ginger. After a few days I said, “Bring the Olsen twins back, these kids are terrible.”

That’s how the Olsen twins played in “Full House” in all eight seasons. After years in the film industry, they became more interested in fashion and started their own luxury clothing brand The Row, whose designs are highly appreciated by the industry. They also did not decide to return in the Netflix sequel “Fuller House”, which the writers made fun of several times in individual episodes. However, their younger sister Elisabeth Olsen, who is well known to viewers as the role of Wanda in Marvel productions, seriously took up acting.
