If you want your arrangement to stand out, put on other, luxuriantly flowering plants. One of them may be verbena, which impresses with its appearance and delights with its colorful flowers.

Pelargonium is not the only flower. Verbena will impress as soon as you plant it

There is no denying that geraniums are beautiful, but we can find them in almost every arrangement. It’s worth betting on something different this season, i.e. verbena. In Poland, we have different varieties available – from those that reach high sizes to those that hang down, ideal for balcony pots. The best time to plant verbena is just around the corner, because the second half of May is the perfect time, when frosts are no longer scary for plants. What conditions does it need to grow luxuriantly and delight with its appearance?

Verbena feels best in fertile, well-drained soil and will do well in the garden as well as in pots. It is wind tolerant, but requires a warm, sunny location to thrive. In addition, Patagonian verbena can safely overwinter in the soil when it is sheltered, and the other species are rather annual flowers. Importantly, verbena likes moderate watering. When we overdo it, the roots will rot and the leaves will turn brown. However, when we overwater the plant, it can also be wasted.

What fertilizer for verbena? The necessary ingredient you already have on hand

Not only is it important to provide the right conditions, but also to ensure that it thrives on a regular basis. If it is to please the eye with beautiful flowers, you should focus on natural fertilizers. You can also make them yourself with what you have at home. Egg shells are great for this. You can crush them into dust and mix with the top layer of the earth or pour water and leave for two weeks. After this time, the verbena watering solution will be ready. Water the flowers with such fertilizer once every two weeks, and their appearance will delight.
